Venue Description
The Festival of Spirituality and Peace is a festival dedicated to connecting with the original ethos of the Edinburgh Festival. As a non-profit organisation it aims to engage its audience with thought provoking conversations and performances.
St John's Church
In a prime location at the end of Princes Street, Edinburgh’s principle Street and home to the Festival of Spirituality and Peace St John’s Church is unique. It has an established reputation a fringe venue which delivers high quality events from all genres.
There are two performance spaces; the main body of the church for large performances and the hall for smaller more intimate workshop and performances.
Due to its professional and dedicated staff St John’s Church has a family atmosphere and great relations with performers both in Edinburgh and across the world.
The Festival of Spirituality and Peace has a breath-taking array of activities taking places from drama to drumming and conversations to art exhibitions. We are looking forward to hearing from anyone who would like to get involved and contribute.

Performance Space Details
We have two performance spaces to suit a range of styles, atmospheres and audience sizes.
The Church
The church was built between 1816 and 1818 and seats up to 350 people. There is a comprehensive sound system built into the Church and simple stage lighting will be rigged for the Festival period. The Vestry and Chapel attached to the stage which can be used as wings and for short-term storage. However it is important to note that the Church is a functioning worship space and certain compensations must be made to respect that.
The photo gallery requires at least Flash version 9.0.28.
Please install the latest FlashPlayer.
We have a PA system and a 8 channel mixer plus various microphones (lapel mics, radio mics and swan-neck mics). For a full list please see below. The venue is best suited to traditional and classical music although we can be creative with sound and accommodate all kinds of music if necessary. Classical performers always enjoy performing at St John's due to its beautiful natural acoustics. The acoustics also make St John's very suitable for drama and spoken word events.
Church PA
3 x lectern 'gooseneck' microphones
2 x handheld radio microphones
Cables and mic stands for the above
3 x clip-on radio microphones
Line/DI input connections
8 channel mixer
2-way foldback mix & speakers (note these are the same speakers as quoted in the Hall PA spec.)
The system is ideal for spoken events, and for light vocal / acoustic instruments (eg. classical guitar).
Playback of pre-recorded soundtracks (from CD/DVD or laptop computer) can be supported.
Monitor speakers can be provided for foldback of microphones or for music (eg. dance) tracks.
Important note - with regard to live music, the Church PA system is not intended for anything beyond very modest levels. Performers who require more substantive amplification should bring their own system entirely; it is not recommended to connect the installed system with other amplification systems.
The Hall
The Hall seats 65 people and has modern airy feel. It is wonderfully adaptable to suit day time workshops to night time intimate concerts. The seating can be set up cabaret style, tradition theatre style or even completely removed and stored to the side. There is a kitchen attached which can be used for refreshment if desired.
The photo gallery requires at least Flash version 9.0.28.
